Chapter 1: Dyrdrik's Awakening
Before there was Grand Odyssey, before there was "The Artifact", and before there was "The Game", there had been the beautiful land of Tamria and it's peace inhabitants; the werebeasts. The werebeasts can be divided into three tribes: The Land Crossers, The Sky Grazers, and The Peace Keepers. Originally, all of the werebeasts co-existed as one solid, unit; each tribe finding their way to support and aid their fellow kin in to making this world a better place. There was no predetermined leader of these inhabitants; they all believed in togetherness and the bond of brothers. Love and prosperity was their focus, and with a bond like theirs, they'd live a conflict free life for the rest of their lives; until it appeared one day.
"My brothers, my sisters, I come with great urgency"!
A young rat-boy burst through the crowds and appeared before his fellow kin, a look of worry and freight plastered upon his face. He looked as if he'd seen something much worse than a ghost, and it was that alone that spread worry throughout the werebeasts. An elder avian male stepped forth; placing his hand on the boy's shoulder in an attempt to calm him down "Be still, my boy. What is this great urgency you speak of?" after calming himself down, he looked to his fellow kin; sighing and coming out with what he had to say. "My kin, The Great Dragon, Dyrdrik has awoken from his slumber"!
The entire crowd gasped in unison, each and everyone; enveloped in this massive fear that struck their hearts. "That can't be possible!" A dashing young lion now stepped forth; his confusion being made obvious by the blinded rage he possessed "Why would Dyrdrik awaken now of all times?! " He looked around, suddenly growing distrust in some of his fellow kin, namely the avians "There shouldn't be a reason" his eyes now blatantly darted towards the avians; losing all of his trust he had in them "Unless, someone..or some people-- were to blame for this".
With this, chaos had slowly begun to unfold, multiple avians gathering around the elder as he turned to the lion; eyes filled with superiority "I can't say it's unlike a Land Crosser to blame the Sky Grazers; especially when out of jealousy. Your primitive people were always bound to the land, we Sky Grazers can explore uncharted territories; beauties and riches as far as the eye can see. " The elder grew somewhat of a cocky expression as he rose up to face the lion "It's only natural you'd blame us. You're intimidated by our very existence, aren't you"? Those who knew the way of the land found their place by the lion's side; the lion snapping back as he bore his fangs "Some of these things you speak are true. We've no wings to fly about like whimsical little fairies and see what the skies have to offer us. " They all begun withdrawing their claws and balling up their fists "But when it comes to power and strength, we are unmatched." his eyes narrowed "Would you care to test that, bird brain"? "Stop!" As if her presence alone was enough to calm the two souls, a female doe stepped from the crowd; the three positions of power finally making themselves known "My elder, my younger, please! A catastrophe is upon us! Are we not to rally our strength as brothers and sisters and face this issue head on? Stop your childish bickering. Let us speak to the boy who knows of the events to come". The middle-aged doe calmly approached the now panicking rat-boy; crouching down to his level and greeting him with a warm expression "Boy, what all do you know"?
"It was but mere moments ago. I'd been traveling through The Sleeping Forest, the smell of cheese taunting my gullible nostrils as a house rested beyond such a wicked path; it's reason for locating there not entirely being one I knew. After exiting the forest, my eyes gazed upon the structure of the house..My kin, it was not a house we'd created!" The crowd gasped, all chattering amongst themselves as he continued "That's not all I've to tell. I looked to the sky to notice a strange object, not of this world, falling from the sky and landing near Draco's Wake; the rest of this story is everything I've told you prior".
Silence befell the crowd; the werebeasts unaware of a way to reverse the tragedy to come. Eventually, it was the elder Avian that stepped forward; his mind already set on what was next for the kin. "It appears we've no choice then." They all knew what he was prepared to say, they'd decided upon it themselves "We're going to have to travel to Draco's Wake and see this artifact for ourselves". The remaining heads of power stepped forward; turning around to face their fellow kin as they each took turns truly introducing themselves to the people. "Salutations, fellow Sky Grazers, I, Finch, will hereby represent us on this journey." The sky grazers applauded as the next to step up was the lion; passion fueling his words "Here me my people! Your king, Mufasa, shall seek this item and destroy it; even if it costs me my life!" Mufasa's land crossing followers roared and howled; all being silenced as the beautiful doe stepped forth "Greetings. To those who don't know me, my name is Ellenor, and I wish to grant peace to all who seek it. I shall travel on the journey in the hopes of reversing this tragedy; returning the bonds that have now been ripped to sunders. May the peace be with you, kin". Those who sought peace cheered and clapped for their princess; not everyone agreeing with her words. With that now being said and done, they turned towards the direction of Draco's Wake, accompanied by the young rat boy, as they set off to locate and destroy this mysterious item; each and everyone of them hoping they'd make it in time to prevent whatever catastrophe that was cursed upon their lands.
Chapter 2: The artifact
After three days and three nights, the party managed to make their way to Draco's Wake; a spiraling volcano that is guarded by The Great Dragon. They climbed the steep steps and found themselves directly in the lair of Dyrdrik himself; said dragon's eyes watching the strange object that had landed infront of him. "Yon trajedi pral tonbe sou tout moun. Yon trajedi kontrèman ak anyen nou te wè anvan" The Avian stepped forth "He says a tragedy is to befall us all; A tragedy of which we've never seen before." The dragon nodded as he continued "Atik sa a, mwen te wè li nan sot pase yo, te aprann li nan listwa. Tankou yon objè, tankou yon fòs; nou pa ka kite sa a tonbe nan men yo nan chwazi - Li se nan isit la"! The avian had no time to translate as a human male rushed into the scene, sliding onto the ground and under the dragon; grabbing the artifact on his way. Rising up, his eyes began to glow an ominous white; the history of this item surging through his mind. "I see.." He looked down at the bracelet as he attached it to his right arm; it's power flowing through him almost instantly "Grand Odyssey..what a beautiful name for such a god-like item".
The werebeasts stared in awe and shock as weapons foreign to even the oldest history books appeared before their very eyes; twelve in total. The man stood tall and bravely; a power beyond their comprehension now in his possession. "Kin, jwenn tounen! Mwen pral kenbe l 'la pou osi lontan ke mwen kapab!" The man shook his head from left to right, lowering his large red scarf as he spoke in a low tone; his voice booming loud enough for the entire world to hear. "I've no intentions of engaging with such a weakling now. No, with this power, I will bring for a new era, with this power, I will bring a life of my own to Tamria, with this power, I will create a whole new world!" His eyes fell upon the werebeasts, a grin hidden behind the scarf "Brace yourselves, werebeasts, a change is coming; soon, you won't be the only inhabitants of Tamria.." The young lion stomped his feet, fist balled up as he let out a roar towards the human male "Speak your name, human, so that I may vow to slay you by my blade and my blade only!" the male chuckled "My name?..Gilgamesh". It suddenly became clear to the others what exactly took place here as the man stated his name. Where ever this item came from, it possessed enough power to take a mere mortal past the limits of his own existence; to give birth to a god. "If you've any qualms with me, well, you'll have to find me first, Mufasa. I shall rest beyond the hollowed eye, in a paradise long forgotten by your kind; Peyi a nan letènite, lavil Babilòn".
Gilgamesh disappeared without a trace, his whereabouts never to be found again.
Chapter 3: The New Beginning
The time was now 50 years following the event that could only be known as "The Ascension". The werebeasts had divided Tamria into three sections: "Streth, Sajès, and Lape" each standing for Strength, Wisdom, and Peace. For a great span of time, each kingdom lived in harmony away from one another. So long as they didn't get into each other's way, they'd have no reason to start war or any other form of conflict. It wasn't until, on the same day of The Ascension did an event that neither tribe could have ever have prepared for take place..."The Change".
Beams of light, tens of them, thousands of them, they all came crashing down upon the earth. Left in there wake were creatures, creatures that would change the course of their lives for an eternity and onward. Above their heads rested words, words that foreign to the werebeasts: Human, Elf, Half-Elf, and Dwarf. They were all different, they all came in different shapes and sizes and they clearly held difference over one another. A final beam of light had crashed upon the earth; one beam that shocked the beasts still; left in this beams wake was none other than a werebeast itself! Under their names had spoken other things, many things, things they couldn't begin to understand even if they'd tried. Classes, levels, these things made no sense. While the werebeasts panicked, the tribe leaders were calm. They knew exactly what these creatures were and why they'd come; Gilgamesh's message finally made sense now. These weren't creatures of this world, no, these were beings just like Gilgamesh; these were "Players".
The tribe leaders quickly gathered, holding a brief but important meeting of the issue. "They have arrived..the players have actually arrived. God I never thought this day would come." Said Ellenor "Yeah, well, they have, and there's not a damn thing we can do about it." Said Mufasa "Actually, you're wrong about that, Mufasa. There is indeed something we can do." Mufasa questioned his words "Yeah, what's that?" The avian chieftain frowned "We can adapt, we can grow, we can study from these players, and when the time is right, we can take the Grand Odyssey for our own". The idea sounded solid enough, however, Mufasa knew not to trust a Sky Grazer with his own life "What makes us so sure you won't take it for yourself? What if I took it on my own?" The Avian cocked his eyebrow; the thought of Avian Superiority suddenly sounding nice "Feel free to do so--if I don't take it for myself first." The doe stood up with a stern expression on her face "I'll stop you. I'll stop you both! I'll obtain this Grand Odyssey and destroy it in the name of peace"! As they all stood, staring one another down, a tension unlike any other formed between them; each with their own reasons for hunting it down "Then may the best beast win".
What they hadn't known that day, was that a few players had stumbled upon their discussion; each reporting to the NPCs in charge of their respective kingdoms. That day, every race within Tamria knew of the secret. That day, marked the new beginning; a beginning of the VR MMORPG formerly known as.."Grand Odyssey Online".
